Last weekend the Prep Baseball Report hosted their 9th Annual Super 60 Pro Showcase. Typically reserved for the top 60 players in Illinois, the event has steadily expanded into Indiana and Missouri. Many of the Top Tier 18s and a few select 16s and 17s performed in front of a packed house of pro scouts at the Max-McCookAthletic & ExpositionCenter’s 125,000 square-foot facility in McCook, IL.
One of the most impressive Top Tier prospects at the event was RHP Tyler Farrell (Galesburg HS, IL). The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Western Illinois recruit topped out at 92 mph, sitting comfortably at 90-91. Farrell also showed a sharp 77-mph curveball, in addition to an 80-mph changeup. Mount Carmel RHP John Kravetz (Illinois recruit), a 6-foot-3, 190-pound RHP, sat 87-88 with heavy sink and a hard-biting 78-79 slider.
Although the event featured mostly seniors, there were a handful of juniors and a few sophomores who showed extremely well. The Class of 2012 had several impressive performances: 6-3 LHP Ryan Borucki (Mundelein HS, IL) and 6-5 RHP Seth Huxford (Concord HS, IN) both sat at 86 with their fastballs. In addition SS Adam Walton (Stevenson HS, IL; Illinois recruit), ran an event-best 6.68 60. Another junior, left-handed hitting OF Jack Czeszewski (Elk Grove HS, IL) also opened eyes by running a 6.78 60, in addition to putting forth an impressive round of BP. Senior Chris Godinez (Lake Forest HS, IL; Bradley recruit) ran a 6.89 60 and showcased a strong arm across the infield (83 mph). There was also a buzz about sophomore infielder Bryce Only (Huntley HS, IL). Only took perhaps the most impressive round of batting practice and showcased good actions and feet at 3B.
Junior Jason Goldstein (Highland Park HS, IL; Illinois recruit) impressed by throwing event-best 1.9 pop times. Charley Gould (Lake Forest HS, IL), one of the top uncommitted players in the state clocked a 1.97 pop time and showed impressive power potential at the plate.
Other players in attendance included OF Tim Barry (Oak Forest HS, IL; Kansas State recruit), 1B Brian Rodemoyer (Lyons Township HS, IL) showed good hands at first base and plus power potential at the plate, RHP Max Allen (Highland Park HS, IL; Georgetown recruit) touched 84 on the mound, OF Chris Massimilian (Hinsdale South HS, IL; South Carolina Upstate recruit), SS Austin Miller (Grayslake Central HS, IL; Butler recruit) flashed impressive actions and arm strength at SS, Nick Milligan (Galesburg HS, IL; Western Illinois recruit) had the top OF velocity touching 91, RHP Jeremy Rhoades (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, IL; Illinois State recruit) sat at 84 mph, RHP Anthony Spangler (TF South HS, IL; John A. Logan recruit) was up to 86 mph, and OF Michael Martin (Stevenson HS, IL; Harvard recruit) ran a 6.82 60.
In all, there were 47 pro scouts in attendance, in addition to 24 other baseball professionals, such as “advisors”, junior college coaches, and media. A Baseball America representative was also on hand covering the event.
