Top Tier is thrilled to welcome Chris Carlsen as the new director of youth baseball. A lifetime baseball professional, Carlsen brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the program, where he will guide the development of players, ages 9 through 14.
A college pitching coach since 1997, Carlsen’s coaching career began at Wayne State University (1997-98) before he spent four years at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (2000-2003). Carlsen then moved on to Winona State (2003-2007), where he helped lead the program to two NCAA Division II Regionals. Carlsen also served as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Lewis University (2007-2009).
Additionally, Carlsen coached in the Northwoods Collegiate Baseball League (2006-07) and is currently a associate scout for the Cleveland Indians.
“Chris’ wealth of baseball knowledge is a huge asset to our program,” said Todd Fine, CEO of Top Tier Baseball. “His player development background at the collegiate level will be a tremendous benefit to all our youth players as they grow and develop. His professionalism, desire to develop players, and extensive organizational skills will help take the youth program to the next level. We couldn’t be happier that Chris is on board.”
Last year, Carlsen served as the pitching coach at Providence High School, where he helped lead the Celtics to a state runner-up finish in Class 4A. In his career, Carlsen has coached more than 20 pitchers who were drafted.
“I have a passion for player development and helping young players achieve their potential,” said Carlsen. “I am excited to be part of a program that puts such an emphasis on player development, not only on the field, but off the field, too.”
Carlsen has three young boys who play, and has been involved in youth baseball since 2000.
