Congratulations to Brother Rice junior Kevin Koziol for being selected the Gatorade Player of the Year in Illinois. Koziol, a shortstop and right-handed pitcher who helped No. 2 Brother Rice to a 27-0 start, was one of only a few juniors in the nation to be named player of the year.

The Top Tier SS-RHP, who’s the No. 1 ranked Class of 2010 prospect in the state, committed to national champion LSU on Thursday night.

A starter since his freshman year at Brother Rice, Koziol is a two-time first team PBR All-State selection. As a sophomore he tied the school record with 11 home runs and 48 RBI, and hit eight as a junior. Koziol is a two-way standout who has been dominant on the mound with his 86-89 mph fastball and sharp splitter, and has big-time power at the plate.
