Dodgers rookie right hander John Ely of Homewood/Flossmoor HS earned his first big league win Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks. Ely who pitched for Top Tier in 2004 threw 6 innings; he allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts. Ely has not issued a walk in his last two starts. On the season he’s 1-1, he’s tallied 17 strikeouts in 18.2 innings with 3 walks, 16 hits and a 3.86 ERA.
Ely was selected in the 3rd Round of the 2007 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft by the Chicago White Sox. Last season John pitched for the White Sox AA affiliate in Birmingham, Alabama going 14-2 with a 2.82 ERA in 27 starts for the Barons. Prior to the 2010 season John was traded by to the Dodgers for Juan Pierre.
