Connor Powers, 1B, Benet Academy HS, TT Class of 2006: Powers, a four-year starter at MississippiState was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 21st round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft (drafted previously in the 2009 Draft, 11th round Dodgers). This spring Powers hit a career-best .379, leading the Bulldogs with 81 hits, 18 doubles, 16 home runs, and 68 RBI. He finished his fourth in career home runs (54) and tied for fifth in RBI (206). Connor’s career was highlighted by a trip to the College World Series in 2007 where Mississippi State finished 7th.
Kyle Hunter, LHP, Galesburg HS, TT Class of 2008: Hunter went 9-2 on the mound this spring for the Kansas State Wildcats leading them to a number-3 seed in the Fayetteville NCAA Regional. In 84.1 innings he had 58 K’s with a .279 batting average against. The Yankees selected Hunter in the 43rd round.
Cole Tyrell, SS, Minooka HS, TT Class of 2006: Tyrell started all 57 games for the Dayton Flyers this spring. The 6-foot, 185-pound Tyrell hit .295 with 12 home runs and 60 RBI (team leader in HR and RBI), he also had 7 stolen bases and 19 walks. Tyrell was picked by the Padres in the 42nd round.
Brandon Meister, RHP, Stevenson HS, TT Class of 2006: Meister was a four-year letter winner at Miami University (OH). Over the course of his career Brandon made 49 appearances amassing 33 strikeouts for the Redhawks. Meister signed a Free Agent contract with the Washington Nationals and was assigned to the Nationals affiliate in the Rookie Gulf Coast League.
