Todd Fine

Owner and Director of Player Development
Todd is the co-founder and the director of baseball operations for Top Tier Baseball.  Todd has led Top Tier to five consecutive state titles and has sent more than 100 players to college and professional baseball.  He recently served as a coach for Under Armour at their All American Game at Wrigley Field and as Coach of USA Baseball's 14U Great Lakes team where two of his players were chosen to represent Team USA.  Todd pitched at Michigan State University.

Matt Plante

Associate Head Coach, 17 Americans
Matt has coached Top Tier at the 18U and 17U level for the past 6 seasons.  Matt has been a intragual part of 5 of the last 6 Top Tier state championships. He has coached at the collegiate level for the past two years at Springfield College in Massachusetts.  Matt is currently an assistant coach at Kansas State Univesity.

Sean Walker

Head Coach, 17U Nationals
Sean was a four-year letterwinner at Carmel HS, and was named the Illinois High School Baseball Player of the Year as a senior in 2003. Walker went on to play at Michigan State University, where he was a four-year starter at catcher.  As a freshman in 2004 Walker earned Freshman All-America honors, was a member of the All Big 10 Freshman Team, and was tabbed by Baseball America as the best power hitter in the Big 10.  Walker played professionally for Oakland County (Frontier League). This is Sean's second year with Top Tier.

Ray Borucki

Head Coach, Top Tier 16U
Ray was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies, where he played professionally at the triple-A level. Ray was the hitting coach at Mundelein High School for multiple seasons, including an Illinois State Runner-up Team in 2002.  This is Ray's fifth year with Top Tier.
 

Peter Wolff

Assistant Coach, Top Tier 16U
Peter played for Lake Forest High School where he was an All-Conference selection and All-Area Preformer in leading the Scouts to a school record in Wins (29) and a 3rd Place Finish in the 2003 IHSA State Tournament.  He was also a member of the first Top Tier team in 2004.  Wolff then earned a scholarship to play for Michigan State University, where he was a 4-Year Letter Winner and a Four Time Academic All-Big Ten Honoree. Peter was recently named to the Pioneer Press All-Decade-Team, as one of the Top 10 pitchers in the area from 2000-2009.

Gary Bennett

Senior Coordinator of Catcher Development
Gary was drafted out of Waukegan High School in 1990 by the Philadelphia Phillies.  Gary has played in the major leagues for the last 12 seasons, and will be spending his 13th as a catcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers.  His long career has included a number of playoff births, and was a member of the 2006 world champion St. Louis Cardinals.  This is Gary's third year working with Top Tier.

 

Marty Patterson

Roving Instructor
After being drafted out of high school by the Chicago White Sox in 1993, Marty attended Michigan State University, where he was a three year starter.  Primarily a catcher, Marty also pitched, played first base and outfield.  He was elected captain in 1997 and earned Offensive Player of the Year honors.  Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1997, he played two years in their minor league system.  Marty has been a skilled hitting and catching instructor with Full Package and Top Tier Baseball since 2000.

Scott Stahoviak

Roving Instructor 
Scott grew up in Gurnee and graduated from Carmel Catholic High School in 1988.  He attended Creighton University where he was a 3-time All-Conference Player, and he was named the 1991 Conference Player of the Year as well as the 1991 ABCA Division 1 College Player of the Year.  His '91 Creighton University team played in the College World Series and finished in 3rd place.  Scott was the 27th overall pick in the 1991 Major League Baseball Draft. Scott played at the Major League level for the Minnesota Twins for 5 years during the 1993 and '95 - '98 seasons.  After Scott retired from professional baseball, he became the hitting coach for the University of Illinois at Chicago (from 2003 - '05).  During his time at UIC, the team was ranked nationally in the Top 15 in Batting Average.  This will be Scott's first season with Top Tier.

Tug Gillingham

Roving Instructor
Tug played three years at Purdue University (2000-2003), where he earned Academic All-Big 10 honors, and played two years at Northern Illinois University. Tug served as the assistant coach at Triton Junior College for two years and coached one year at Walther Lutheran High School, his alma mater where he was a three-year all-conference catcher. Tug also played three years of professional independent baseball with the Windy City Thunderbolts, South Georgia Peanuts and the Sioux City Explorers. Tug has been instrtucting catchers and hitters for the last five years.  This is Tugs second year with Top Tier.

John Krenger

Manager, Top Tier 15U
John Krenger has been managing/coaching since 1995 at Hamlin Park in Chicago. With six City Championships three State Championships, three Bronze Medals, two Silver for AAU World Series Baseball in Florida.  Joined Todd Fine of Top Tier in 2005 and won the 2005 D2 AAU World Series in Florida. Then was the runner up to the East Cobb Astros in the CABA WS in Chrystal Lake 2005. In 2006 and 2007, Krenger coached his team to a CABA World Series Runner up in Virginia and Ohio. Was a 2008 State Champion and 3RDplace finish in the Connie Mac. In 2009, started a 14u travel elite with Top Tier and finished with 2009 Championship over former MLB player Micky Morandini 2-1 and three other tournament championships.

Cliff Brown

Cliff comes to Top Tier with a wealth of baseball knowledge, ranging from college coaching to running training academies. Cliff has trained thousands of players, including 32 players that have gone on to play professional baseball. Cliff served as the pitching coach at Valparaiso University, the recruiting coordinator and hitting coach at California State University-Los Angeles, assistant coach at Cal-State Dominguez Hills, and Northeastern Illinois University. This will be Cliff's first year with Top Tier.

Seth Kenny

Manager, Top Tier 18U 
Kenny has been a Division I college pitching coach for nine years, serving five years at Illinois State University and four at Austin Peay University. He also served as the recruiting coordinator for two years. In his nine years as a college coach, he’s had nine pitchers drafted under his tutelage, including two who made the major leagues. Seth pitched at Eastern Michigan University, then played two years of pro ball in the Oakland A’s organization. This will be Seth's first season with Top Tier.
